About Brain Tumors

  • Each year approximately 190,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor.

  • Brain tumor research is currently under funded and the cure rate is significantly lower than that for many other types of cancer.

  • Brain tumors are the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in males ages 20-39 and the 5th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women.

  • The five-year relative survival rate following diagnosis of a primary malignant brain tumor is 32.7% for males and 31.6% for females. The five-year survival rate for a grade IV glioblastoma patient is less than 5%.

  • Symptoms of brain tumors can vary, depending upon their location in the brain. Brain tumors may affect memory, vision, emotion, thought, and mobility.
