NVWWS Hits A Home Run Against Brain Cancer
With Their 15th Annual
Northern Virginia
Wiffle® Ball World Series!
Waters Field was the place to be on Saturday, August 7th for The 15th Annual Northern Virginia Wiffle® World Series. The charity event was sponsored by The 2 Young Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising money for the fight against brain cancer. The day was filled with games, prizes, fun and even celebrity appearances including Town of Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman, not to mention NBC-Channel 4's newest young anchor, Craig Melvin, and one of Washington's most respected TV news anchors, Mr. Jim Vance, of NBC-Channel 4 who threw out the first pitch. 2YF has sponsored the Wiffle® World Series for the past six years, and with remarkable generosity and outstanding support it has contributed over $250,000 in support of its cause. The 2 Young Foundation is sincerely thankful that such reputable figures were in attendance for this year's tournament, and equally delighted with the large number of teams and spectators that contributed to the success of the fundraiser. Thanks to the dedication of the supporters, including corporate sponsorships, 2YF will be able to raise almost $20,000 towards furthering the effort to find a cure for brain cancer, and helping others coping with this terrible disease.

Fast Plastic Takes the Title for 2nd Year in a Row
They’ve done it again – 2010’s coveted Bedell Cup and the 2010 NVWWS championship goes to the team made up of Ed Brandmark (Captain), Henry Brandmark, Nate Favero and Tim Davis known as “Fast Plastic.” They defeated Bedell’s Bombers 1-0 in the title game, made up of Stu McCusker (Captain), Richard Darcy, Jim Lavey and Jim McCusker. This was Fast Plastic’s 4th year in the tourney - and they defended their title against 39 very talented teams. Their goal was to win back-to-back titles as the only other team to do this was The Fat Guys back in 1993 and 1994, so congratulations to all the members of the team and all the Fast Plastic supporters on their victory this year. They were Team #28 in the lineup, but #1 on the final bracket board! In addition, Nate Favero and Henry Brandmark from Fast Plastic took home the MVP and Rollie Fingers Award, respectively. The Babe Ruth Award went to Jack Hogan of the Has Beens and Cousin Eddies [Erick Nearpass (Captain), Kevin Nearpass, Justin McCarthy, John Falchetta] took home the Bedell Points Championship for most fundraising $ raised and advanced to Elite 8. The new format was definitely a success this year as we crowned 4 League Champions: Little League: Mean Machines [Jimmy Goldsmith (Captain), Joey Goldsmith, Patrick Ryan and Jordan Ebersole] defeated Kids vs. Cancer in finals; Minor League: Meathead Squad [Jake Hall (Captain), Ben Socher, Kendal Hall and Doug Ubile) defeated the Risers in finals; Masters: Bedell’s Bombers defeated Diesel in finals; Majors: Fast Plastic defeated AMSI Big Woods Wiffleballers in finals]. Hope to see you all next year! Finally, Patrick Halligan took the Little League HR Derby Championship! Congrats Patrick!
A Sincere Thank You
To the Town of Vienna, all of the corporate sponsors, tournament participants, vendors, spectators, and celebrities that helped to make the 15th Annual Northern VA Wiffle® World Series so amazing. The 2 Young Foundation extends its gratitude and genuine appreciation for the time, money, and dedicated support that was given in honor of our cause. We played ball for a cure, and definitely hit a home run against brain cancer!
See you all next year!
